To promote ceramic culture and strengthen its connection with local communities, the New Taipei City Yingge Ceramics Museum presents the annual spring program Spring Outing Sanying, in collaboration with local green plum farmers and ceramic artisans. Through the process of sealing spring plums in handcrafted ceramic jars, the program highlights the unique lifestyle and cultural landscape of the Sanying area, where craftsmanship and nature are deeply intertwined. Over the years, this event has become one of the museum’s most iconic springtime activities.
The key visual draws inspiration from the imagery of spring and reinterprets it through the lens of ceramic craftsmanship and local identity. Large, flowing color fields form blossoms and mist-like shapes, whose silhouettes echo the gesture of hand-kneaded clay before a ceramic vessel takes shape, subtly referencing the origin of ceramic creation. Hand-drawn textures and fine grain details are incorporated throughout the composition, complemented by a palette of soft, fresh hues that evoke a warm, natural, and lively spring atmosphere.
Motifs of plum jars and plum wine are subtly integrated into the visual narrative, directly connecting the imagery to the core theme of the program and allowing for flexible extensions across related applications. Through an illustrative approach that weaves together ceramic craft, local ecology, and the imagery of spring, the visual expresses the distinctive cultural character of the Sanying area and conveys a sense of life slowly preserved, matured, and celebrated through the vessel.
